MICHELE LOBO STOPFORD

Sculptures, drawings and paintings
My art practice is based on direct observation from nature; a compelling force that tends to drive my creative impulse. When I make sculptures, paintings or drawings, I use a range of materials and work across various disciplines. The choice of material is frequently determined by resource availability, location or necessity. Figurative art and years of observational studies inform my work in sculpture, drawing or painting.
Understanding materials and craft are essential and ultimately affect how a work might evolve. When I create an art form, I invoke methods that relate specifically to the inherent qualities that materials possess. Although I work primarily in sculpture, I might also design a book or work collaboratively on replica animals for a museum. I hope that you enjoy this presentation of my work.
